Monarch Beach
Monarch Beach, a subdivision of the City of Dana Point since January 1989, is named after its most prominent geological feature, Monarch Bay, which was called so in recognition of the masses of Monarch butterflies that had used its rolling hills covered in sagebrush and manzanita as breeding grounds. Today, the butterfly colonies are reduced in size, their habitat replaced by urban development.
